The
music is called Roots Rock Reggae and The group is called Rascalin
& The Roots Rockers..... Fronted by a gifted, charismatic singer/guitarist;
anchored by a riddim section that carves deep and cavernous grooves;
and buttressed by a bevy of horns,keyboards, percussion and background
singers, Rascalin & The Roots
Rockers is a nine-piece bliss machine that recalls the halcyon days
of roots reggae, an era when artists like Bob Marley, Peter Tosh
and Jimmy Cliff were in their prime.
Roots Rock Reggae is one of the few original styles
of music to emerge from the late 20th century. Artists like John
Lennon and Sting were calling the musical stylings coming out of
Jamaica "the only truly original music of the 70's, 80's, and
90's".
Rascalin, transplanted to Southern California
from Bocas Del Torro, an Island off the Carribean side of Panama,
is of Jamaican, Spanish and Chinese descent. A Christian Rastafari,
Ras counts Bob Marley and Jimi Hendrix as his main influences. You
can hear the stylings of these two "to young to die" mega-stars
whenever Rascalin takes a stage.
